There are few events in Melbourne quite like AFL Grand Final week.
In September 2026, Tommy Creative had the opportunity to photograph the Toyota AFL Grand Final Parade, documenting the event from a production perspective for Harry the Hirer.
The 2026 parade took place through Melbourne’s sporting precinct on Friday 25 September, bringing tens of thousands of fans together ahead of the AFL Grand Final at the MCG. afl.com.au
Rather than simply photographing the parade itself, our brief was focused on showcasing the incredible amount of event infrastructure and production that sits behind an activation of this scale.
Photographing Event Production in Action
Working with Harry the Hirer, our role was to document their event production assets throughout the precinct and show how these elements functioned within the live environment.
The photography focused heavily on:
Truss and structural elements
Staging and event infrastructure
LED screens and display systems
Lighting installations
Speakers and audio infrastructure
Camera platforms and production structures
Signage and branded surfaces
Temporary structures and activation spaces
Event furniture and interior fit-outs
The finished environment once crowds arrived
The objective was to create a body of imagery that showed more than just individual pieces of equipment.
It was about capturing Harry the Hirer’s products in application — demonstrating how staging, truss, lighting, structures and event infrastructure come together to help build one of Melbourne’s biggest live events.
Event Photography for Production Companies
A large part of our work as a Melbourne event photographer involves working not only with event organisers and brands, but also with the suppliers responsible for bringing an event to life.
